Our Story
Kaur Voices began after a personal #metoo encounter turned into unveiling a huge culture of silence embedded deep in the South Asian community. A culture where things such as encounters of sexual assault, domestic abuse, mental illness, alcohol and drug abuse are everyday occurrences which have somehow been normalised under the ‘taboo’ banner and therefore never talked about nor addressed. The culture of ‘shame’ is widely prominent and therefore speaking up or seeking justice is out of the question.
Our team came together after agreeing that this is completely unhealthy and must change, we decided to create a safe space where this veil of silence can be lifted. We understand that this process of change will take time and each individual will be supported to embrace their voice and find their strength through it. This is why we felt it vital that Kaur Voices becomes a space for all voices, free of judgement, free of restrictions and free of taboos.
We are passionate about every subject that impacts all humans, from abuse, emotional distress to the environment and everything in between, as all of these subjects need to be talked about! We cannot stay silent and dormant any longer. We must come together and act. We deeply believe that through education and dialogue we can create more inclusive communities.
We are all individually responsible to create safer spaces within our own bodies and around us in our communities, we are responsible to make this world a better place and it is with this hope that Kaur Voices came together.
The Kaur (core) Voices movement has started and we intend to make a lot of noise about everything society labels ‘taboo’.Join the movement and help to create a world that you would want your future generations to be safe within.
